BORDER COLLIES AT
|
Tess -- Tess
was my first dog. While not the greatest herder she was a great first dog and I
learned a great deal working with her. She was very maternal, always
taking baby creatures of all kinds under her wing from children to puppies to
orphan lambs. Sadly she is no longer with us but we are very glad we could
move here to our farm and watch her play and enjoy the place before she left us.
She will be missed. |
Ben -- Ben had
plenty of power but was very gentle with his
stock with a naturally steady pace. He was an excellent dog at lambing time where he
showed patience with the lambs but stood his ground with the ewes. Ben is
stylish when he chooses to be, but often gets bored with only a few sheep or with dog
broke sheep. Ben is retired but he is still the most intelligent worker I have ever encountered.Ben goes back to Richardson's Scottish National Champion Mirk - 52844 and Fortune's Glen - 75630. |
Meg -- I only had Meg for seven months (from 7 months of age
to 14) before she was unfortunately struck down by a combination of valley fever and tick
fever. Meg was supremely confident in just about everything she did, especially if
it involved stock. She had enormous natural talent, was an amazingly fast learner
and extremely biddable. She was one of the best young dogs I had ever seen, at the
age of 14 months she was already at the point of being ready to start trialing in
Pro-novice. While for some people this is not unusual I prefer to bring young dogs
along slower so it was very unusual for me . She is found in my list of current dogs
because her memory still drives much of what I do today. |
Hope -- Hope is a very precise worker, she is a naturally
wide out-runner with sharp and square flanks. Like her full sister Meg, she is very
biddable and very patient with her stock. She has a lot of eye and is very stylish.
Hope has retired from trialing but still plays an active role in teaching
new students. Hope is a
daughter of USBCHA Champion Ettrick
Bob - 63357ABCA and a Grand daughter of Wilson's Purina Herding Dog Champion Roy - 157864, she also goes
back to J. Knox's two time USBCHA Champion Jed - 88991 and Dalziel's Scottish National
Champion Dryden Joe - 104626. |
Moss -- Moss has tremendous power but can be a bit tough to
handle. He is a fast worker with little patience for troublesome stock, he is none
the less an exceptional farm dog, the best i have ever encoutered and has saved
man a life, including Ravens. A series of injuries forced his premature
retirement from trialing but even now that he has slowed down there are
some jobs that he does that nobody else can. He is a son of USBCHA
Champion Ettrick Bob - 63357ABCA
and a Grand son of a very powerful red dog named Spur, who worked hogs in California, via
his mother Shasta. |

Chip
-- Chip came to us from Border Collie Rescue in Wisconsin. Not really
interested in working she is full of life and mischeif and is frequently
seen riding with Raven when she runs errands. She is the boss of the house. |
| Bear -- Bear is a son of Moss and Hope. He has had no interesting in anything other than working sheep since he was 8 weeks old. A long legged, fast and powerful dog he is a generally calm worker who never looses focus and can keep 50 sheep together and moving steadily just as well as three. He started trailing in open in 2007, initially he saw little point in trialing but now has seemed to have decided that its not a waste of time after all. |
| Barkley --Barkley is another son of our Moss and Hope. He seems to have his mothers temperament around sheep with a bit of his dads temper thrown in. Barkley is not going to be trialing, he is Ravens work dog when Ian is away at trials. |
