For farmers and ranchers who want to have their dog trained for them — and for people interested in trialing who need help getting a dog ready — your dog can stay at Wolston Farm for a month or more of intensive training.

The dog must be at least one year of age. If it has no former herding training, we require an evaluation before it comes in for intensive training.

Dogs get worked almost every day. Some days they get two or even three training sessions; other days they may not get any. That flexibility helps our training schedule, and it also helps the dog learn that not every time you go out is going to be a working session — but if they wait, their next chance is never far off.

At the end of the dog's training time, the owner comes and visits for a couple of hours to a full day. We work together so I can show you what the dog can do and what problems you need to watch for. I usually provide a written summary of where the dog is and what I think you need to be doing with it when it comes home.

Length of stay

For dogs with no herding experience, I recommend an initial stay of at least two months (the minimum is one month). For dogs that have been here before and need a refresher, the minimum stay is two weeks.
