Short, focused, intense.
Mini-camps at Wolston Farm are one- to two-day intensive training programs with a very specific focus. They're usually offered as needed, requested by a group of students.
Below is a list of subjects that have been or can be the focus of a mini-camp. It isn't exhaustive — if there's a subject you're interested in, I can build a mini-camp around it in most circumstances.
The Five C's
My fundamentals for becoming a better dog trainer. This mini-camp focuses on how to apply these principles in your daily training.
Sheep Camp
My most requested mini-camp, usually offered every summer. A little over two days of intense focus on sheep behavior — including lectures, hands-on sheep handling exercises, group discussions, and some dog work.
Shedding
A two-part camp focused on shedding. Part one is the skills a dog needs to be a good shedder; part two is the skills the handler needs to be good at shedding.
Holding a Line
One of the most important skills a dog can learn — holding a straight line without much help from the handler.
Trial Handling
Focused on an understanding of the rules for trials and how to minimize point losses by how you choose to deal with situations that arise on the trial field.
Feel and Pace
Two sides of the same coin. A dog with good feel for its sheep and the ability to hold a steady pace is an enormous asset. This camp focuses on how to encourage the development of feel and pace in your dog.
International Shed
A test of teamwork between handler and dog — moving, sorting, and holding sheep. This camp focuses on the techniques and decisions that greatly increase your chances of success and minimize point loss.
Penning
Focused on the skills and techniques needed from both dog and handler for successful penning.
