The most popular way to learn herding with your dog is through private or group lessons. During a lesson, Ian works with you and your dog — separately and together — helping each of you learn how to work sheep.

While you can come at whatever frequency suits your life, most students come once a week. Students and their dogs also get the opportunity to participate in activities around the farm and gain important practical experience between lessons — which is often where the biggest learning happens.

Private lessons get you more personalized and detailed instruction than group lessons, but you don't get the benefit of watching and learning from others. They're by appointment, typically booked a week in advance to give people in a current time slot the chance to keep it. Weekend slots are the most popular — and the most likely to be bumped occasionally for trials, camps, or other events.

Lessons run from 8 a.m. until noon seven days a week, as well as Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday afternoons from 2 to 4 (unless there's a conflicting event).
