Designing Your Stick
Step #3 Choosing a Head Material

Now we start to get into the details of how a stick is going to look. Not all materials are avialable for all styles of stick and in some cases I may not have suitable stock materials on hand but this list shows all the materials I have worked with and I do try to have some of all of them available.

White Sheep Horn

Black Sheep Horn

Black Water Buffalo Horn

Antler
Thumb sticks & hikers

Quilted Maple

Maple Burl

Black Walnut
English Walnut
Spalted Walnut

Myrtle

Fire Oak

Wormwood Oak

White Cedar
Mostly for carved derby

Padouk

Bubinga

Purple Heart

Zebrawood

Cocobolo

Ebony

I can sometimes get other woods as well as more exotic horns such as goat horn or multi colored sheep horn. While antler cannot be bent the way horn can i occasionaly come across pieces that have a natural crook shape although they would fall under the market stick category as defined here.
