Getting to Wolston Farm.
39562 Hwy 226
Scio, OR 97374
Within easy driving distance of Salem, Albany, and Corvallis, and about an hour from Portland or Eugene.
Coming for a herding lesson or a trial? Don’t head for the farmhouse — there’s a separate route to the lesson and trial field, off Franklin Butte Rd.
From the south (Albany / I-5)
Take I-5 to Exit 233 for Albany. Turn left at the light at the top of the ramp onto Highway 20. About eight miles on, take Highway 226 to the left. Follow 226 into Scio, then turn right, staying on 226, just past the Car Quest auto parts store and before the bridge. Continue about a mile — we’re on the right, opposite a dairy. If you reach Franklin Butte Rd., you’ve gone too far.
From the north (Jefferson / Scio)
Take I-5 to Exit 238, the Scio exit. Turn left at the bottom of the ramp. At the stoplight in Jefferson, turn right onto Jefferson-Scio Rd. and follow it into Scio. At the stop sign, turn right, go through downtown, then turn left onto Highway 226 just past the bridge. Continue about a mile — we’re on the right, opposite a dairy. If you reach Franklin Butte Rd., you’ve gone too far.
Alternate route from Salem
Take Highway 22 east toward Stayton. Take the Stayton exit and turn right at the bottom of the ramp. Follow this road through Stayton — it becomes Stayton-Scio Rd. — all the way to Scio. At the stop sign, turn left; after a short stretch of downtown, cross the bridge, then turn left onto Highway 226 toward Lyons. Continue about a mile — we’re on the right, opposite a dairy. If you reach Franklin Butte Rd., you’ve gone too far.
The trial field has its own gate.
It isn’t reachable from the farmhouse, and there’s no GPS address for it — it’s off Franklin Butte Rd. Follow the same highway route as above, then:
From the south or north: once you’re on Highway 226 through Scio, continue just over a mile past the bridge and turn right onto Franklin Butte Rd. About 400 yards up, look for a large double gate on the right — white tents and sheds mark the spot. Open the gate, drive in, and close it behind you.
From Salem: once you’re on Highway 226 toward Lyons, continue just over a mile and turn right onto Franklin Butte Rd. Same landmarks — gate, tents, sheds.
A few practical notes.
The farm isn’t generally open to the public except by appointment or when we’re hosting an event. Email imc@wolston.com to schedule a visit.
